'Sleeping' On Your New Voice
July 24, 2007
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
Greetings!
Two weeks ago, I was in Toronto, Canada, to work with a group of employees for a management firm and I discovered Katie. What a dramatic voice change for this young woman! It was quite an experience. Two days after returning to the States I received an interesting email from another one of the people with whom I had worked. To see what happened to both Katie and Mary as well as Arminda, please read on... |
'Sleeping' On Your New Voice
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Katie had one of the most dramatic changes in a female voice that I have ever encountered. She went from sounding like a 12-year-old to a mature woman. Having been contracted by another firm for a 3-day conference, Katie was unable to attend the 2nd and final day of my training, which meant that she didn't have a chance to 'sleep' on her new voice. When I work with a group of clients corporately, (as well as the advice given in my Voicing It! DVD), I will hold my training over a 1-1/2 day or 2-day period because I want the client or clients to have a chance to 'sleep' on their new voice. This process of finishing the day, going to bed, and then waking up the next morning settles the optimum pitch of the voice. Because I could only work with Katie for the one day, I had to tape her 'after' recording during the first day; therefore, her voice didn't have a chance to settle. While Katie had a dramatic change in pitch, she was unsure of exactly where her true voice was. Had she been able to sleep on it and return the next day, not only would her optimum pitch have settled but her colorful delivery would have returned as well. In speaking with Katie later in the week, I discovered a beautifully resonant voice that was just as colorful as when I had met her.
Today, Katie's voice fits her -- physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially. Never again will Katie answer a phone and have the caller ask to speak to her mommy! And even better news for this young woman is that as she ages, her voice will continue to improve! |
Presentation Skills Value Added Bonus ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I met Mary during the Toronto Voice Training Workshop, she had a lovely voice. After learning how to breathe with the support of her diaphragm, Mary discovered a voice even lovelier. Two days after my workshop, Mary received an email about a business presentation she had given at York University the night before. The email is as follows: "Mary, just wanted to say a huge THANKS for your participation last night. You added a huge amount of value and it was a pleasure to watch such an effective presenter." Imagine improving the sound of your speaking voice and becoming a powerful, dynamic speaker as well! That's The Voice Dynamic Approach! |
Arminda 'Hears' Voices Differently ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another participant in the Toronto workshop was Arminda and she discovered something that I often hear from my clients and my customers. Now when she hears a 'bad' voice she is much more cognizant of it then before.
I must confess...with good voice training, this often happens. People will ask me, "Do you analyze every voice you hear?" Thankfully, No I don't -- (I would go crazy if I did!) -- however, I am extremely aware of the very bad as well as the very good. Poor Arminda dated a young man after her training with me and decided never to see the fellow again because he sounded like a teenager. With a nasal, high-pitched voice, this man did not project the right image for her.
Remember, 37% of the image you project is the sound of your speaking voice...
Remember, the voice you hear on your answering machine, not the one you hear in your head!
If you'd like to improve your vocal image, eliminate vocal abuse, project your voice instead of shout, speak in 'living' color, and feel more confident and relaxed making presentations, then Voicing It! is for you. To read more about Voicing It! and what it can do for you go to:
