Ms. Clinton's Voice Displays Vocal Abuse

January 9, 2008

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Greetings,
I know I promised not to inundate you with newsletters, and I know I sent you an email last Friday, but I just had to write after hearing two different voices this past Monday.
First, a gentleman phoned me from San Diego and told me that he wanted to improve the sound of his voice.  Immediately, with just his opening address to me, I could hear a tremendous amount of vocal abuse -- a voice symptomatic of severe hoarseness.  We spoke for quite some time and I asked him his age.  He replied that he was 50.  I then told him, in no uncertain terms, that he must do something with his voice.  This was not a question of his wanting to improve his speaking voice.  This was a question of his needing to improve the sound of his speaking voice, because if he did not take action to rectify his problem, his voice would only continue to deteriorate.
Second, I heard a little of Hillary's soulful lament amongst a small group of women Monday night and I was stunned.  In a recent photo of her, I had been shocked to see how she has aged in the past year and also how tired she looks.  What I heard from Hillary's mouth the other night was tremendous vocal abuse caused by continual misuse of the voice.
Some of you may remember a newsletter I sent out early in 2007 in which I loosely described Hillary's voice as an unpleasant ordeal.  The woman yells!  She is loud.  She has no expression when she speaks.  Her voice is grating to my ears.  In my mind, her strident voice does not display a person of compassion or feeling let alone the person I want to represent me as the Presidential 'Voice' of America.
--- I have nothing against a female president; but, how about some voice lessons Hillary?  My goodness, you are running for President of the United States!  Someone tells you how to dress.  Someone tells you how to do your hair and makeup.  Someone tells you your schedule every day.  Someone (probably) writes your speeches. Why hasn't someone told you that your speaking voice is akin to nails on a blackboard? It certainly doesn't warm the cockles of my heart!!! ---
Well, Monday night's soulful lament was totally different.  Her voice was not loud but soft because she was physically unable to push it any further.  Her voice was not strident but hoarse.   She has been pushing her voice day in and day out which not only damages the vocal cords and throat but is also extremely tiring.  With just a little training, she could have discovered not only more voice by the end day, but more energy as well.  And, for the rest of the world, voice training would make her much more appealing.   __________________________________________________________________
If you suffer any form of vocal abuse, you will discover that as you age it will only get worse.  Vocal abuse cannot be stopped until you use your chest cavity to power your voice instead of just your throat, your vocal cords, your mouth, and/or your nose.
WHY NOT LET YOUR CHEST DO YOUR TALKING!
It's a wonderful feeling; it's a warmer, richer, resonant-sounding voice; and, it's guaranteed to improve with age!  Incidentally, if you'er over 40, nothing on your body is improving better with age -- the voice that has had training, does.
